An intermediate way is to realize that the Bible contains true stories, meaning stories that teach us something true about our relationship with ourselves, with each other, and with God. It is up to us to use the gray gook that God put between our ears to discover the truths contained therein. True stories contain multiple layers of meaning. God doesn’t hand the truth to us on a platter. They* expect more from us.
