Nobody wants to watch a third-grader in a school play other than that third grader's parents. The parents know it's terrible but there is, or that is there was, a kind of sacred trust going on, a rite of passage for parents and children.
But now there is not a significant moment at any time in any child's life that does not feature a screen thrust between them and their parents.
