During our teen years we are so vulnerable. All those emotions are new and overwhelming. I was relentlessly bullied and filled with suicidal ideation before there were any PSAs saying call such and such number if you are thinking about harming yourself. I thought about it All. The. Time. Carried out a half-hearted attempt and spent time in the psych ward.
I got past all that shit and through to a happy life. I'm 73 now and I can barely remember my teens. Not everything was gloom and doom. But who knows? If they'd had those PSAs back then I might have called and saved myself and my family a world of hurt.
But enough about me. My point is that during our teens we are awfully vulnerable to those who want to take advantage of us. I'm so glad you got out of that unhealthy relationship and learned to take care of yourself.
