For me it was a no brainer. I was never here to make money in the first place.
None of the recent changes brought any noticeable decrease in what I do get. What does cause a decrease is when I get lazy or distracted and stop writing. The formula is very simple: write more, earn more.
As I wrote elsewhere, I started writing here in 2015, before the partner program. I was a paying subscriber before I was in the partner program in fact. For me it was something like NPR. I interacted with it all the time, so it made sense to pay for it
The partner program brought with it a deterioration, or I should say dilution, of quality in that articles written because writers who had something to say became harder to find amid the clutter of helpless self-help peddlers, 25 year old life coaches, and entrepreneurship advisers whose only enterprise, as far as anyone could tell, was the writing of entrepreneurship advise on Medium.
Those VERY SAME writers always PISS and MOAN LOUDEST about every change Medium makes, so Medium must be doing something right. If they are making it harder for bullshit artists to make a buck, that's fine by me. There was always a flurry of "I'm Quitting Medium For Good I Really Mean it This Time" articles. Fine, take your tripe with you, and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.
