Heaven would not be much of an improvement over Hell anyway. What human consciousness would not go mad at the prospect of eternal life, seriously considered? We would have to be reconfigured somehow so we could take it, in which case it's not me who is in heaven, so why should I care?

I cannot avoid the conclusion that if God is truly merciful, as every theist maintains, then when we die it's lights out. This satisfies Revelation also. There's no more sighing, weeping, suffering, or death in oblivion!

Mind you I'm in church every Sunday, but not for the hope of heaven. I just love worshiping God is all. I go and immerse myself in the story of boundless love, a love so all-encompassing as to subject itself to the worst humanity had to offer at the time in order to redeem us to itself.

It helps that I'm in the choir and we have a splendid music program. All that abstraction might not be enough to sustain me.
