Here's something from 1968. For some reason your article made me think of the lyrics bolded below. I had to call my brother to pin it down though. He's the one with the head for obscure 60s music.

Lyrics:

You don't understand me, don't try to

You look at snapshots in an album in your mind

And you tell me how I've changed, perhaps I have

You had your chance to change the world now it's my time

Please let me explain my point of view

(I went through the same thing when I was your age)

(Why can't you believe that we want to understand?)

No, no, no, you're missing the whole point of this

The problems may be just the same but time is growing short

If we don't solve 'em this time who can say?

(Where did we go wrong?)

(All these years)

(Think of what you're doing to your mother)

I know you told me of the things you did

And now you tell me that you want to understand

I've tried to please you in so many ways

The things you seem to want are very vague to me

Please let me explain my point of view

(I went through the same thing when I was your age)

(Why can't you believe that we want to understand?)

I have tried in many ways to play your game

You've been playing all your life but do you know the rules?

Do they remain the same or do they change each day?

I don't believe that I shall ever learn to play

Try to understand another way

(I went through the same thing when I was your age)

(Why can't you believe that we want to understand?)

No, no, no, you're missing the whole point of this

The problems may be just the same but time is growing short

If we don't solve 'em this time who can say?

You don't understand me, don't try to

You look at snapshots in an album in your mind

And you tell me how I've changed, perhaps I have

You had your chance to change the world now it's my time

Please let me explain my point of view
