I can't help thinking of this from Keats' Lamia:
"Philosophy will clip an Angel's wings,
Conquer all mysteries by rule and line,
Empty the haunted air, and gnomed mine—
Unweave a rainbow, as it erewhile made
The tender-person'd Lamia melt into a shade."
But it's a sentiment I don't share. Knowing about the optics of rainbows enhances my appreciation of their beauty. How many of these "grokers" know that if we had the eyes to see it, the entire sky would be awash in color?
