I don’t get it either, but I reflect that it’s a different generation. At least one of my sons has a tat. If my daughter has one I neither know nor want to know. Ditto her girlfriend. My daughter-in-law has a tramp stamp. Every generation gets into something the previous generation just doesn’t get.
A few years ago when a friend and fellow boomer was getting one I asked, "Whatever for?" His reply was something about expressing individuality, to which I replied something along the lines of "OK then you will have a tattoo, JUST LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE." It was the only actual friend break-up I have ever experienced.
