I go to church every week, sing in the choir, and find the Eucharist moving beyond measure. I wouldn't say I'm an atheist but I'm one of the biggest heretics going.
For example, I have come to believe that if God is truly merciful, then when we die it's lights out. No more crying there, amiright? No more pain, sickness, or for that matter, death. Death has already happened and you can’t get any more dead.

Additionally, I believe God is a story we tell ourselves, and this is OK. Our stories make us human. Stories are the most powerful things we have. Money is a story. Who would say money is not real? Democracy is a story, one that I pray is powerful enough to hold out against the opposing story, fascism.
I say the Nicene creed. I think Nadia Bolz-Weber said it best. The Nicene says WE believe. If you are having trouble with one or more of those points, I can believe them for you. We are in this together.
I attend an Episcopal church after many years in Wicca. This is the denomination I grew up in, so the liturgy was familiar. The Episcopal church maintains the mystery, especially of the Eucharist. My first Eucharist this time around I was like OK I get it. This is a magical ritual celebrating the sacrifice, for the good of the people, of the divine seasonal king. I don't have to understand it. That's why it's called a mystery.
