I had a rather different experience. In high school I struggled with algebra but geometry made intuitive sense to me. I had little difficult with the problems that showed a geometric construction and challenged: "Prove that angle A = angle B" or something like that.
My teacher, Mrs. Gearey, often pointed out that while I had chosen an unnecessarily round about way of doing it, my proof was sound.
Years later I would master algebra through the study of calculus.
