I have been saying this for some time. Lots of people on the left dismiss all Trump supporters as sexist, racist, homophobic haters who don't care about human life. The things is that kind of name calling gets us nowhere. His supporters level insults too, and in fact they are better at it. What do we gain by imitating them?
Many of his supporters are the road kill of late stage capitalism, disposessed by global trade and lacking the skills to do anything about it, nostrums about "retraining" notwithstanding. You are going to train a 50 year former old mill worker how to write Python scripts? The very word "retraining" is vaguely insulting, as if the target was shitting his pants.
As for insults, how about the Endangered Species Act? It told rural people that they were less important than animals, thst is, less than animals. How do you forget an insult like that? It's generational.
Until we see the rise of Trump as a result of failure to anticipate consequences we will all get exactly nowhere.
