So if the universe itself is the creative principle, then worship makes no sense. In its vastness in all directions (deep space, deep time, the microcosmos of the quantum realm) the universe can't possibly care.
Yet then we are human and therefore storytellers. It's how we make sense of the world. The scientific story was supposed to lead to redemption but here we are having brought ourselves to the brink of extinction. Assuming we have not fucked up so bad that we will extinct our own species as we have uncounted others, we will need a new story. Pantheism? I don't expect to live long enough to find out. But then I didn't think I'd live long enough to witness the death of democracy in America, but here we are.
