I wish you all the best. May love enter and remain in your life.
I suspect the notion of soul mates of being one of those illusions that's to beautiful to shake. My own experience mitigates against it. I was sure my first wife was my soul mate. There were just so many stars aligned that it seemed obvious. But then 5 (or was it 7? It's been so long...) years into our marriage she turned my life into a bad country song.
In the case of my second and current wife, I'd known her for some time and liked her, respected her. When we started dating she let me know that she was marriage and children level serious, and that if such was off the table for me I should not waste her time as "my biological clock is approaching midnight." I had been single for a few years and was bloody sick of it. Plus a close friend was getting hitched. That always favorably disposes one for the idea of marriage and family. In some ways she wasn't "my type" but in other important ways she was. I decided that I would love her. I did not "fall in love" with her. It was a conscious decision. When we married I was 40 and she was 37.
Fast forward to the present, 32 years on. Our daughter is on her own and doing well. I say without hesitation that I love her more than ever. I have reason to believe it is the same for her. Soul mates, love at first sight, I don’t know about those things, but I know I believe in love.
