I think it dates back to the Endangered Species Act, which said to rural people, "These animals are more important than you and your family."
The Democrats can't fund themselves with union money since the Republican led evisceration of labor unions, so where can they go besides Wall Street? Republicans also pushed the narrative that environmental regulations and not corporate greed pushed jobs overseas. Biden's failure to back the rail strike is yet another nail driven into the coffin of the notion of the Democratic party being the working man's party.
I still vote Democrat though. Republicans made that decision easy with their embrace of full throated fascism.
