I wonder. Does this not repeat the error of the "great man" theory of history? In the case of, say, Jesus, how much do we actually know about what he actually said or did, or even if he existed in the sense that (say) Louis XIV existed?
If we accept that Christianity arose from the confluence of Judaic and Hellenistic schools of thought, and as such is a mystery religion, then what matters is the resulting story, which became the organizing myth of a world conquering civilization.
Our organizing narratives change over time. Has the scientifically based mythos of the transhumanists run aground through its failure to realize that scientific hubris may well have rendered the world unfit for human habitation before we had a chance to escape it through technology?
