If that wildness is constrained by rules, say, natural selection, or the properties of atoms and subatomic particles, then perceptible order will emerge.
Everyone has heard that adage about how a bunch of monkeys banging on typewriters will eventually produce all the works of Shakespeare. Whether or not that would occur within the lifetime of the universe is another matter. Plus, who could locate the Shakespeare amid that immense pile of crap?
However, I read of an experiment where this process was modeled on a computer, with the added feature that all sequences of letters that actually appeared in Shakespeare were kept. The complete works of Shakespeare emerged in relatively short order.
We see abundant life and order before us, which aligns pretty well with current scientific thinking, so our perception of the rules could be, in the ultimate sense, correct.
Looking forward to the next installment. If this isn't my favorite subject it is certainly one of them.
