I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that. Gives to beggars* I mean. Among my friends and acquaintances they nearly all say something like they are lying, they will just spend it on drugs, etc.

My wife got me into it because she does it. She learned it from her father who told her it was a mitzvah. Yes her family is Jewish. I used to joke to her that she was a better Christian than I was then I started following her good example.
It doesn’t matter what they are going to spend it on, that’s not our problem. Our problem is to love and care for each other.

*My wife hates it when I use this term but it’s a good and venerable old word. The second oldest profession — maybe the oldest! Similarly I’m not a senior citizen, nor am I elderly. I’m OLD. One good clean syllable. George Orwell would be proud.
