It appears that it happens. I'm a publication editor (MuddyUm) and I'm an email subscriber to two of our writers (not wishing to be deluged with email I keep my subscription list less than 5) and I get their emails. One of them is a fellow editor though so I guess it doesn't count, because I have the email option when I publish on MuddyUm so I guess she does too. But that leaves the other.
