It is not unusual for me to ask my wife, or for my wife to ask me, “Have I told you I love you today?” I try to remember to tell her that I love her each day.

Your claim that verbal expressions of love indicate shallowness in a relationship (I don’t know how else to interpret the last two paragraphs, or for that matter, the whole thing.) is presumptuous to say the least. It indicates that you don’t think my love for my wife, and hers for me, is real and authentic. Yet you have never met either one of us, so how could you possibly know?

Express your love for those you love any way you want. I wish you well, but I do not appreciate your casting shade on the authenticity of the love that underlies my marriage.
