It mutates because that’s what viruses do. All living things do that. Americans could be brilliant and it would still happen. But American stupidity will make sure that the whole thing turns out much worse than it has to be. We’ve seen that already — story of 2020. If we are lucky the vaccines will prove effective enough against variants that it’ll be like seasonal flu in that we’ll need to get boosters yearly, and enough people will actually get these yearly boosters that they will work. If we continued to wear masks in public when it was going around— oh wait. This is America. We are stupid and proud of it!
