We were a nation of dignity, integrity, trustworthiness? When?

But enough cynicism. It’s OK to be aspirational. We dodged a bullet. We failed to deliver the resounding rebuke to racism, hatred, and division that was the stuff of my dreams, but then again we were not plunged yet deeper into the abyss of my (more frequent) nightmares.

So let us raise a glass to Meh. Considering the alternative, meh will do quite well, thank you very much. Have you ever noticed that the thing that actually happens is neither your fondest hope more your most dreaded fear? As some wag or another pointed out, we Americans were given a choice between spreading our bread with store brand grape jelly or raw human sewage. While a truly distressing number opted for sewage, store brand grape jelly won the day. Meh. I’ll take it, and raise a glass with you. Drink, l’chayim…………., to meh! The whole thing has given me an idea for another story. I guess that’s yet another reason for gratitude.
