It's very complicated in my family because my wife and our friends/my daughter’s surrogate grandparents are very much pro-Israel while she and my natural son are very much pro-Palestinian. We are all going to be visiting together in June so I sincerely hope everybody has the good sense to just shut up about it.
My daughter is extremely conflicted. I feel like I've talked her off the ledge at least a dozen times in our lengthy text exchanges. She's even ended messages with "...I might as well kill myself."
There are times I want to scream at them, "Fine! Next time I'll let YOU talk her off the ledge!"
For my own part I want to sympathize with people being killed in large numbers but
-the viciousness of the attack against my wife's people
-that the Gazans went out and celebrated it
-the protesters spitting at Jewish students
Will somebody just knock me unconscious and wake me when it's over?
Was it like this for my parents when my brother was in Thailand and I was out protesting?
