I've served on a petit and a grand jury. When I was on the grand jury I was retired. My employer gave me leave when I was on the petit, maybe even with pay, I forget.
The grand jury was more interesting, but also pretty depressing in that many cases involved first degree child molestation. I had to learn the difference between first and second degree child molestation. You don't want to know.
Also occasionally funny. Some criminals are so stupid! Like the armed robbers who wore masks that left their eyes exposed then robbed a convenience store where they were regular customers & the clerk knew them by name. Or the other guy who went online, showed his loot and cash, and bragged about it.
