My brother went into PC numerous times. Because of the nature of his charges (which I think I mentioned in a previous response) he was often in danger. It was entirely due to protective custody that he made it through 20 months with all his teeth.
That said he often had a cell mate there. Some of them were pretty loony tunes as for example

It was another Inmate he encountered in another session of PC who advised him to lie to me and manipulate me as detailed in my response to one of you previous posts.

The larger point is, he didn’t have to be alone. That proved a mixed blessing.
