My objection to Amtrack is that they don’t accommodate bicycles. Not easily, anyway. You have to box it and check it as baggage. Interstate busses do this too, except that, IIRC, Peter Pan has a bin under there into which they will place up to two bicycles, making it a crap shoot like the city bus. But that still beats Amtrack.
Update: bicycles are accommodated on the northeast corridor at least. When you pay your $20 bicycle fee they caution you that you have to be capable of removing the front wheel from your bicycle and lifting it onto the rack, which is a hook for the back wheel located above head height.
