My own situation was not like that. He wanted out of a marriage to an ailing woman who could no longer put out due to pain and infirmity. Never mind what he promised. So he cheated on my mother openly prior to the divorce, adding injury to injury.
But he was also the man who read to me of the wonders of science while I sat on his lap in rapt attention, instilling in me a lifelong love of science. I loved him very much, and I believe he loved me, and he was a very good father.
But the way he treated my mother, I can't respect that.
