Of course I have no direct experience of this not being Asian nor having had fundamentalist Christian parents. But I do recall that my brother's best friend in high school, Ichiro Takano, used to go on and on obsessing about the fact that he had no desire to be a doctor like his parents wanted. At the time I thought it was just weird but in hindsight his dilemma was very real.
