OK let's see if you will be 50 in October you were born when I was 24.

I realized recently that I've passed the last fuck: There isn't always tomorrow.

Death: the FINAL FUCK!

If you get the reference you win today's trivia contest.

So yeah. I'm not afraid of dying any more. Suffering, yes. How could any human not be afraid of suffering, pain, and humiliation? I've been there for friends, relatives, and loved ones in their final hours, days, and weeks. Months and years even. Not fun.

But, the being dead part, not so frightening. I assume God is merciful, so, when we die, it's lights out. If I knew I was going to die like next week, well, it's been fun.

I broached this conversation with one of the co-pastors of the church I attend every week and give wads of money to. She was like, you mean, no afterlife. At all. [Me nodding.] Unfortunately she had to run.

So yeah I go to church a lot but not for the hope of heaven. If you really think about it the situation of those in heaven is scarcely less dreadful than that of those consigned to hell, as I maintain in the article linked above. I go because I love the ceremony and especially singing in the choir. Choir singing is awesome. I'm in three choirs, one of which, occasionally, even pays me. Choir singing is my paradise. I didn't have to die to find it.
