Or perhaps simulation theory is a kind of reductio ad absurdum for the Cartesian philosophy, demonstrating to us the absurdity of the notion of a disembodied consciousness existing apart from the physical world in which brains, and therefore sentience, evolved. Which has something to say about whether or not the soul exists. If I were consistent I would be an atheist, but when my church reopens I’ll no doubt be back there receiving the Eucharist. Consistency is overrated.
