Science depends on "miracles" (cell phones, vaccines) for proof of its veracity. While no one disputes the existence of cell phones, vaccines are no longer "believed in" by a considerable proportion of the population, enough to make a difference. If Trump wins and makes RFK Jr. head to the CDC or something, the fall-off in childhood vaccine coverage, which has already started, will accelerate, with predictable results. Will the sight of their own children getting sick and dying turn these asshats' heads?
Now everyone is complaining that scientists failed at communication. If that is so how did I know that vaccines protect against disease but rarely against infection? How did I know the difference between effectivity and effectiveness? That the proportion of vaccinated people who got endocarditis was lower than that of the general population, and way lower than that of COVID patients?
