The "progress" of civilization was been the mixed bag to end all mixed bags, in that we realize (to late?) that civilization may end itself. Only the indigenous cultures of Africa ever lived in harmony with nature. Every other place Homo sapiens sapiens migrated we wiped out native species with abandon. The Moa, megafauna of Europe and North America, etc etc.
