There is so much sensitivity here. It really is a moving thing to read.

For whatever reason I thought of the time when I was about, oh, 15 and I told my mom that I was depressed. She said something to the effect of, “You’re too young to be depressed. Being depressed is for old people.” About a year later I was in the hospital because of a suicide attempt. She was mostly a good mom but she missed that one.
