There was a This American Life episode about this. Back before you could get it in a lump sum there were guys who sold annuities to lottery winners. Ira interviewed one who followed up on the winners and found NO EXCEPTIONS to the rule that it destroyed their lives.
My wife plays it and I told her if she wins I will divorce her. I love her like crazy but I figure I have nothing to worry about because it won’t happen. There are lots of lottery winners but I’d be famous: The Man Who Divorced His Wife... For Winning the Lottery!!!
