We assume a physical substrate upon which we build our subjective experiences, then wonder if we can "know" it. Does it matter? We trust science because of its excellent track record of gaining for us power in the world.
Only recently have we started to see the price of that power. It is clearly too late to reverse climate change. The only question is, how bad do we have to let it get?
Concurrently we developed, on the basis of science, a world-spanning system of communication, which was supposed to liberate everyone by making information available to all, and unite us in peace and harmony, but which, as a result of its impersonal nature, we see dividing the world into warring digital tribes, with autocrats and madmen arising to take advantage. How bad will this get? How many will have to suffer and die?
Science boosterism blinded us to such potential dangers. Now they are upon us.
