We were part of a group tour focusing on the Crypto-Jews of New Mexico, who were originally forced out of Spain by the Edict of Expulsion in 1492. Some went to New Spain (not an easy thing for a Jew to do) to get away from the Inquisition but it got there in the 1500s so some resettled to the furthest reaches of the empire, namely New Mexico. All very fascinating (albeit not entirely unknown to me) but it left no time for balloon rides etc. Besides the annual balloon festival was over by the time we got there.
