Wearing a mask is primarily about other people, not getting them killed. It is a collective thing, like voting. It’s something we do. It barely matters if I do it, except inasmuch as I am part of we… As Americans have a tough time getting our (collective) head around this sort of thing.* It smells like (gasp, shudder) socialism.**
* “Hey I know everybody should stay home and all that, but it’s important to me that I be with my family.”
** It’s a good thing we more or less acquired the voting habit early on. Can you just picture it?
