Went back and (re-) read the prequels. So glad for you and your family. We rejoice over the prodigal son. It is natural. We pray that our others will not take umbrage.
I can identify because my younger son recently emerged from a toxic codependent relationship with his mom. He is restarting and rebuilding his life now. Too bad his mom (my ex-wife) had to die in order to bring this about. (If you want to know more scroll my feed. When my ex was dying I wrote about it all the time.)
I'm getting on a plane next month for his birthday. I'm thinking of it as his re-birth day. My other son, with whom he is staying, told me, "Lots of people talk about turning their lives around. He's actually going it." He is now so proud of his brother, who he formerly dismissed as a loser and a mamma’s boy.
The prodigal son now has a job after like 10 years with no work history and reports are that it is going well. It's important to me to share this day with him. It is costing me north of a grand for one day but what better thing could I spend it on?
